COVID-19

Dear Quaker Community:

The purpose of this letter is to communicate that the New Philadelphia CSD has been following the developments related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and is in communication with health officials.  In efforts to take a proactive approach, we are and will continue to heed the governor’s advice to keep our students safe. The situation with COVID-19 is serious and ever-changing. Our health leaders are in frequent communication with public health officials. I want to ensure you that we will continue to work with the local, regional, state, and national experts in public health and follow their guidance.

Per the request of Governor DeWine, all unnecessary mass gatherings are canceled.  This directive from the Governor impacts various New Philadelphia School activities.  The following activities are postponed until further notice:

  • Elementary Fine Arts Programs

  • Guitar Variety Show

  • Music Marathon

  • Field Trips to the Statehouse

  • Field Trips to the McKinley Museum

  • Youth Leadership Experience at River View HS

  • NPHS Student Council Trip to Independence

  • All other field trips.

Health experts recommend taking the following precautions to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, and the flu:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Hiram College CCP
If you are not graduating high school this year and plan to continue to take College Credit Plus courses at Hiram College (or at one of the high schools where Hiram College courses are being taught) next year, you MUST complete the application again which can be found at: https://hiram.radiusbycampusmgmt.com/ssc/aform/G0T04ck7003m0x6702d7870n.ssc.  Please note that it will look different than past application forms!

This application will allow you to indicate you are still intending to continue with the College Credit Plus program for the 2020-21 academic year, so we have it in our records.  You will also need to complete the intent form for your high school again (and will have to each year) by April 1.  Unless you took all your courses at Hiram this year, you will need to submit your most up-to-date school transcripts again, but test scores (ACT/SAT, etc.) will NOT be required.  The deadline for this application is May 1 for summer session and June 1 for fall session.  Be sure to watch your emails for Hiram College related items. They may be reminding you what materials you are still missing.

*****Please note that the ABSOLUTE FINAL DEADLINE to COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION for 2020-21 is August 1.  If we do not have ALL of your required application materials by August 1, you will not be able to take CCP courses through Hiram College.*****

Vaping Information from the ODH and the New Philadelphia CSD
State and local public health officials in Ohio and nationally are investigating reports of serious lung illnesses in individuals after vaping, many of them young people. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that these lung illnesses are all linked to vaping and likely associated with chemical exposure, but it is too early to pinpoint a single product or substance common to all cases.

The majority of these cases are youth and young adults. Almost all states have reported vaping-related lung injury cases, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting more than 2,000 cases nationally as well as a number of deaths.

Vaping is a public health crisis among our youth.
