coach cornell New Philadelphia High School Girls Basketball Coach Named State Division II Coach of the Year
Congratulations to New Philadelphia High School Girls Basketball Coach, Kevin Cornell, for being named state Division II Coach of the Year!
Cornell's Lady Quakers were 21-0 in regular season, District Champions and made a run at Regional Semifinals.

In an interview with the Times Reporter, Coach Cornell said "Coaches are only as good as their players, it's a great honor and I'm blessed. I told the girls its a great representation of the hard work and dedication they put in this season. More than anything, its a testament to them.  They are a special group, and they make me look good."

TAlberts "Mr. New Philadelphia"
It is with profound sadness that I write to let you know that one of our own, our Chief Operating Officer Travis Alberts, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 2.  Our sincere condolences go out to the family and to his children during this difficult time.

The entire Quaker Nation is deeply saddened and collectively heartbroken with our loss. Travis was a coach, a colleague, a mentor and a friend to many. He was a "True Quaker" and vital part of our community for many years.  To many students and to his own children, Travis was fondly known as, “Mr. New Philadelphia.” Whether he was a fan at his kids’ functions or volunteering, he had a heart for our community and its people.

We were all blessed and are better for having known Travis Alberts, a great man throughout his life.  Travis was dedicated to service in many ways throughout his life and he lived his values every day.  He coached the boys’ varsity basketball and freshman football teams here at New Phila, he was a Rotary Member and their president, he served on the Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Board Member, he was a proud member of the Coshocton Community Choir, and more.  Travis Alberts was a servant who truly cared about children, education, and New Philadelphia, and his loss leaves a void for our schools and our community.

Today, we feel a sense of emptiness and grief as we mourn the loss of Travis. We ache for his three wonderful children, as they go through this difficult time. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the entire Alberts family including Travis’ parents, children, extended family and siblings.  The Alberts have always supported the Quakers and the Quaker Nation is here to support you.

We grieve now, but also understand that in the future, it will be our duty, and the duty of all who were touched by Travis, to honor his tremendous legacy. We will get up, dust ourselves off and move forward with positive action the way Travis would want. We are all better for having Travis in our lives. His life and legacy is a testament to his success because he left the world better than he found it.

Thank You Travis Alberts.  You will be deeply missed by the New Phila family and the Quaker Nation.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 8 PM at NewPointe Community Church in Dover. A funeral service led by Pastors Joe Schulz and Rich VanArsdalen will be held Friday, February 8, 2019 in the church at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Travis Alberts Memorial Fund to help fund higher education for his three children.
