The New Philadelphia Schools face an urgent problem with school buildings: the 8 current buildings are expensive to operate, need $15 million in basic repairs and maintenance, and are overcrowded.
For over a year, the schools engaged the community to plan for the future. After hearing from over 1,200 people, a community facilities committee recommended consolidating buildings into a campus setting and ensure that all children learn in a safe, appropriate and updated learning environment
This plan makes financial sense because if we act now, the State of Ohio will pay 55% of the overall cost. If we don’t act, that money will go to a different district. And, when completed, the schools will save close to $600,000 annually in operating costs. This will extend current operating funds at least an additional 3 years.
