New Philadelphia City School District's South Elementary 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awardee
Today U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized New Philadelphia City School District’s South Elementary School as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“We are very proud of the faculty, staff, and students of South Elementary School and are thrilled that their efforts, along with Mrs. Jacklyn Triplett’s leadership have been recognized at a national level,” stated Superintendent David Brand. “South Elementary School has a wonderful and welcoming culture focused on the success of each child and the National Blue Ribbon Schools designation affirms it.”

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually November 12 and 13. While we regret not having the opportunity to celebrate in person, given the current situation regarding COVID-19, we will celebrate the honorees in the ways that we are able, and they will each receive their plaques and flags via mail.

“Congratulations to this year’s National Blue Ribbon School awardees,” said Secretary DeVos. “It’s a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students’ needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives.”
“I am very proud that South Elementary has been named a Blue Ribbon School for the 2020 school year.   The Staff at South Elementary provides a positive school climate and a school culture that promotes the students’ ability to learn. I am honored to have the privilege to work with talented staff and supportive families at South Elementary.  Our teamwork and synergy makes the school a stand out place for children to learn.  We are especially proud of the staff, students, and families,” stated Principal Jacklyn Triplett.
