Quaker Nation Update - 7/24/2020
Today caps off another great week of preparation and planning for the 2020-21 school year. We are continuing to collaborate with our local Health Department to ensure a great school year. The goal of this week’s update is to give an overview of our Responsible Restart Plan, clarify some common questions, and to give an update on how the first week of school will look.
New Philadelphia parents will have two options for their children’s education this fall, attend in-person classes according to the Health Risk level of Tuscarawas county, or enroll in the New Philadelphia Virtual Academy.
The district’s goal for the 2020-2021 school year is to provide in-person instruction for students as much as possible, while still providing a safe learning environment. Therefore, the plan has prepared three possible options for the new school year -Plan ”A” 100% in-person, Plan ”B” modified in-person, and Plan “C” 100% remote. The current Health Risk of Tuscarawas County along with internal data would be the deciding factor as to which of the three plans the district would be operating.
Plan A - 100% In-Person - used when Tuscarawas County is coded Yellow or Orange, means all students will learn at school with enhanced safety precautions.
Plan B- Modified In-Person - used when Tuscarawas County is coded Red, means all students will return to school on a modified schedule with enhanced restrictions. If grade level cannot accommodate 6' spacing, then that entire grade level goes to a modified in-person schedule. (M/TH or T/F - Non-in-person days are remote learning days) Busing continues its regular schedule with masks/facial coverings required for all riders in the 3rd -12th grades.
Plan C- 100% Remote- used when Tuscarawas County is coded Purple, means all students (PK-12) learn at home via an updated, more robust 100% remote learning experience.
The New Philadelphia Virtual Academy offers a fully online option for students in grades K -12 who wish to continue learning from home. All students (K-12) who choose this option will learn at home, with instruction from New Philadelphia City School District teachers. This option will include: 100% online learning option for families who prefer a virtual education. Students/Families are asked to make 9-week commitments to NPVA. Available for students in grades K-12. Available to students who reside in the New Philadelphia City School District and/or who attended NPCSD last year.
Enrollment for the New Philadelphia Virtual Academy will be open from August 3rd until August 10th. You do not need to do anything if you are choosing the in-person option.
New Philadelphia City School District’s Responsible Restart
Phased-In Start
The New Philadelphia City Schools will begin for K-12 students on August 31st with a phased-in approach. This first week will have fewer students in attendance each day and will be dedicated to helping students build relationships, receive their Chromebook, practice all aspects of the Responsible Restart Plan, assess for learning, become familiar with their technology, and begin instruction. This week will also be used for families to become familiar with the Responsible Restart Plan, their child’s schedule, and their child’s technology. The following week, the District will operate under the appropriate Plan as determined by the current state COVID Emergency Level at that time.
