There are many uncertainties for the 2020-21 school year and the New Philadelphia City Schools are preparing for all potential scenarios. While their hope is to return to in-person instruction, there is also an understanding that some families will be uncomfortable sending their children, despite social distancing and other precautions, back to school buildings. Therefore, the New Philadelphia City Schools are announcing their opening of a fully virtual option for the 2020-21 school year.
We have heard from families that they are uncomfortable sending their children to school, regardless of the precautions and changes enacted due to the COVID crisis. Therefore, in efforts to meet our mission and the needs of our students we are launching the New Philadelphia Virtual Academy as a program option for students K-12.
The New Philadelphia Virtual Academy will be taught by New Philadelphia teachers and values. The students will be able to stay more connected to their Quaker family, just from a different location. This will look much different than the remote learning experience students and families used this past Spring. The District will be utilizing its strong relationship and over 15 years of experience sponsoring QDA in building the New Philadelphia Virtual Academy.
Enrollment into the New Philadelphia Virtual Academy will begin August 3, 2020. There is no cap to the number of students who can enroll in the NP Virtual Academy. Families will be asked to make a nine-week commitment to the virtual program, but can seamlessly return to New Philadelphia CSD’s traditional in-person programs.
