York Elementary - A Special Place to Learn

York Elementary has established a firm foundation in its commitment to excellence. From 2005-2009, York was named a School of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education. We have extended this commitment beyond the academics. We feel that character education needs to be more empowering to our students and administered in a way that is understandable to even the youngest of our children. Therefore, we are excited to say that we have become a "Bucket Filling School."  We introduced our students to a book entitled, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today" by Carol McCloud and David Messing. The mission and goals of this book are:

  • To create safer, kinder, more respectful school cultures where children are ready to learn
  • To create communities where all children grow up confident, resilient, caring, and responsible.
  • To strengthen, encourage and support families to become bucket filling families
  • To create positive, supportive workplaces
  • To make bucket filling a habit and a way of life, resulting in individual with full buckets who are healthy mentally, emotionally, and socially.

These goals will allow us to make our district's mission, vision and core values a living document within our school. We are looking forward to an awesome year and hoping that being bucket fillers will "make our school, our homes, and our neighborhoods better places to be."
