Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year.
My name is Mrs. Vicki Locker and I teach fifth grade Language Arts and Science at West Elementary.
Language Arts consists of Spelling, Writing/Communication, and Reading.
New Philadelphia City Schools are implementing Sitton Spelling and Word Skills by EPS, a division of School Specialty, in grades 1st - 6th. The program emphasizes correct spelling in everyday writing, not just for an end-of-the-week test. Stretch It and Finish It are two of their favorite spelling activities. Feel free to visit this on-line spelling enrichment activities link created by East Lansing Schools.

Students set personal goals and keep track of their progress using data notebooks. The notebooks allow them to monitor their own progress in Reading and Science. Students take on-line quizzes that accompany the reading stories, as well as Accelerated Reader quizzes for library books. Points are earned for passing scores and students earn rewards.
Students have the opportunity to access Study Island, a web-based instruction, practice, assessment and reporting built from Ohio's state standards. It is both fun and engaging. It is research-based with proven results for all students. Best of all, it is easy to use in the lab, classroom, library, or at home.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. Pictured left to right: Tom, husband; Vicki; David, son; Alyssa, future daughter-in-law; Valerie, daughter; Kevin, son; and Jen, daughter-in-law.
