New Philadelphia City Schools Earns Ohio Department of Education’s Momentum Award for the Second Consecutive Year

For the second consecutive year, the New Philadelphia City School District has received the Ohio Department of Education’s Momentum Award.  The State of Ohio Board of Education has recognized 64 districts and 214 schools with the Momentum Award. This is awarded to schools who are exceeding expectations in student growth for the year.  New Philadelphia City Schools and Welty Middle School are honored to be part of this distinct group.

The Momentum Award recognizes districts that have received A’s on every value-added measure included on the 2017 Ohio School Report Card.  “These districts and schools are doing a wonderful job providing students with the tools to succeed — and their students are rising to the challenge,” said State Board of Education President Tess Elshoff. “The State Board of Education is proud to recognize these students, teachers, administrators and parents for their accomplishments.”

“While the State Report Card is not everything, it does shed some light on the amazing things our staff is doing for our 3,262 students,” said Superintendent, David Brand.  “This award helps confirms what we already know - New Philadelphia City Schools are blessed with a wonderful staff, great students, and supportive community”
