Saluting Quaker Foundation Educators of the Year!
South Elementary School first-grade teacher Julie Watson recently was selected as the winner of the Quaker Foundation’s 2016 Dr. William J. and Mae Hurst Jackson Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Ms. Watson, who has taught in New Philadelphia City Schools for 13 years, will be recognized at the Quaker Foundation Awards Banquet on May 6. Finalists included South Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Susan Riesen and New Philadelphia High School biology and chemistry teacher Jody Brady. Riesen has taught in the district for six years, and Brady has taught in the district for 18 years.

The award is funded by Bruce Jackson, of Mansfield; Norman Jackson, of Youngstown; and Marjorie Jackson Rasche of Galveston, Texas. A $6,000 cash award will be given to Watson, and a $1,500 award will be given to each runner-up.
