Update
I appreciate how well our students, staff, and community handled today’s situation at NPHS and WMS. As an update, a soft lockdown was done as a precautionary means. We worked in conjunction with the New Philadelphia Police Department. This was completely precautionary due to writing on a bathroom stall. It was decided by the NPPD and NPCSD to proceed with this precautionary measure. There was no immediate threat or risk of harm and all students on campus were safe.
We are continuing to work with the New Philadelphia Police Department to add extra protection for the remainder of the week. To control the school grounds, until further notice students will not be permitted to leave campus for lunch as they may have been able to in the past. Students on extended lunch will eat 5B in the cafeteria and report to the Lecture Hall for a study hall the other period.
The New Philadelphia City Schools continues to keep the safety and well being of our students and staff as our top priority. We have a comprehensive safety plan that gets reviewed annually and tested many times during the school year by multiple safety forces, including Homeland Security. The district meets with first responders annually to review and make improvements to our safety plan.
