The New Philadelphia City Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation for the 3rd consecutive year from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, NAMM & the University of Kansas reviews the school’s music education funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.
“At the New Philadelphia CSD, we are honored to be recognized as the Best Community of Music Education by The NAMM Foundation for our commitment to music education for our students.” Superintendent/CEO David Brand went on by stating, “With the support of our parents, teachers and our community, our students are benefiting from music education in more ways than meets the eye, or the ear.”
Leading research continues to demonstrate that music education builds skills which span a lifetime, enriching our children beyond their school years. After two years of music education, researchers found that participants showed larger improvements in how the brain processes speech and reading scores than their less-involved peers, and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school, but also to attend college as well.
This award recognizes that The New Philadelphia City School District is leading the way with learning opportunities and recognizing that music and the arts are important elements of a well-rounded education for all children. “Music is such an important part of life.
