Sharon Ricklic, a New Philadelphia York Elementary teacher, has advised the student council and helped the students produce an award winning Veteran's Day program. The Guilder Lehman Institute of American History awarded Ricklic the History Teacher of the Year for Ohio, which now enetrs Ricklic as a National finalist for the award.

York Elementary will close its doors forever if the November 6th school levy fails. If the New Philadelphia levy passes, all neighborhood elemetaries will remain intact for 5 years. The school district will be operating in the RED at the end of the school year... major cutbacks will occur. UPDATE: On November 6, 2007, the school levy passed. This means the elementary schools are currently safe.

In 1956, New Philadelphia High School defeated their football rival Dover High School 72-0. The Quaker Club is providing a DVD of the official game films... see clips... hear how it was made... learn about the game... This rivalry has lasted over 100 years- third oldest in Ohio.

The Science Club of New Philadelphia High School traveled to Costa Rica during the school's 2007 Spring Break. While there, the students went hiking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting and snorkling to better understand this ecological paradise. In the evening, the students attended lectures and demonstrations from biologists, volcanologists, ethnobotanists and geologists.
