East Elementary was “proud of our past year” with the designation by the State Department of Education for the exceptional effort and success in receiving our first ever "Excellent" Status on the Local Report Card. The increase of this academic achievement was a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the students, staff and parents of East.
We are proud to have the outstanding members of staff who work at East. In fact, in 09-10, East Elementary had Mrs. Joyce Morrell fourth/fifth grade math and science teacher selected as New Philadelphia City Schools Educator of the Year. She was nominated by a fellow colleague who recognized Joyce for her work with the students at East.
A special annual event the school P.T.O. brings to East is the special day of COSI on Wheels. This event allows students to become familiar with the world of science with hands-on experiences throughout the day. Our students spent a day this year with Dr. Kilowatt and helping him take a closer look at energy and explore different sources of electricity.
As we look forward to this school year, we want to incorporate the district character program and embed into the culture of our building the characteristics found in the program, "Leader in Me." We want our students to take the skills they learn through the activities we promote in our district-wide education program and make each student find their strengths. Hopefully, we will be able to give back to the community with this next generation of leaders.
