Animated eBooks--Bookflix (K-2, ELL)
Bookflix is so fun! This resource pairs favorite picture books with related non-fiction texts. Picture book illustrations are animated to make the story come alive. Many Spanish language titles are available and accessibility features are included. A variety of supplemental resources are also linked to each title. Audiobooks & eBooks--Epic (K-5, ELL)
Epic is an audiobook and eBook library for K-5. It includes access to associated quizzes and learning videos. Epic is free now to families but only by invitation from a teacher. Spanish language materials are available.
Audiobooks & eBooks--Overdrive (All staff, 6-12 students)
Middle and High School staff and students can access Overdrive eBooks and audiobooks using their Google login credentials. The Overdrive collection includes fiction and non-fiction titles for pleasure reading. This is a library lending platform, so the user "borrows" the title for the lending period and can download to a device or access through a browser. Titles are accessible only by the lender, so this platform is better for independent reading than for class-wide reading assignments. Audiobooks & eBooks--Scribd (K-12, All core subjects, ELL, Foreign Lang.)
Scribd (who bills itself as the world's largest digital library), is now offering 30 days of free access to its entire platform (no credit card required)! If you're starting a class wide read, this is definitely an option you should pursue. Users DO need to sign up for an account. Login is Google integrated, so school accounts work well!
Audiobooks--Audible.com (K-12, All core subjects, ELL, Foreign Lang.)
Audible.com (a subsidiary of Amazon) released this collection of free audiobooks for listeners ages 0-18. Since multiple users can access these titles simultaneously, they would work perfectly for a class assignment.
ELL and foreign language teachers, take note: There are titles read in a variety of languages.
eBooks--Reading IQ (PreK-6th Grade, ELL)
Reading IQ is a leveled eBook Library. Spanish language titles are available. Titles range from Pre-K to sixth grade interest and reading levels.
Interactive eBooks--Lightbox & AV2 (K-8, All core subjects, ELL, Foreign Lang.)
Lightbox and AV2 are offering open access to their interactive eBooks through June 30. These eBooks differ from ordinary eBooks in that the reading experience more closely resembles a typical internet reading experience; there are hyperlinks and supplemental videos throughout, allowing readers to choose their own reading/learning path. This is non-fiction curriculum support done in a very high interest way! ELL and foreign language teachers: This collection offers titles in 10 languages with full audio support. Learning Platform--ABC Mouse (PreK-2nd Grade, ELL)
ABC Mouse offers video lessons and interactive learning tasks that follow a progressive path. This platform is geared at students ages 2-8. Spanish language materials are available.
Learning Platform--Adventure Academy (Grades 3-8, ELL)
Adventure Academy will provides elementary and middle school age children with an immersive, interactive learning adventure where they can explore an ever-expanding virtual world while building critical academic knowledge and skills. Spanish language materials available.
Learning Platform--Breakout EDU (K-12, All core subjects & specials)
Breakout EDU features online games that require students to solve content related clues to "breakout" of a virtual escape room style environment. All grades and most content areas are covered.
This resource has a physical component (ask about this when we return to school) and a digital component. To isolate digital games, use the filter.
This resource is available year round through library funding. It is password protected. Login information will be provided via staff email.
Learning Platform--Discovery Education (K-12, ELL)
Discovery Education is offering our district free, complete access to its platform through June 30. Discovery Education is now more than just streaming videos. It includes virtual field trips, articles, videos, quizzes, and lesson plans. There is truly something for everyone here, and it's easy navigate. Use the advanced search to find standard aligned resources. Teachers need to create an account for themselves and then add student accounts for their classes. This can be done through a bulk import that Ashley Claxon can do for you. To create a teacher account, use the passcode provided in an email from Ashley on 3/27. At the sign in page, look for "Use passcode/Create new user."
Learning Platform--Khan Academy (K-12, ELL)
Khan Academy offers free lessons in math, science and humanities from kindergarten through the early years of college. Students can use the exercises, quizzes, and instructional videos to learn and master skills. They will get immediate feedback and encouragement. Spanish language materials are available.
Learning Platform--Mango Languages (6-12, ELL)
Mango Languages is a subscription based language learning tool. Every self-paced language course introduces the learner to cultural insights and grammatical nuances specific to their language of choice, delivered through native speaker dialogue. To access this resource, please email Ashley Claxon with a request for an account. Student accounts can be batch added from lists you provide.
Learning Platform--Miss Humblebee's Kindergarten Readiness (Pre-K & K)
Miss Humblebee's Kindergarten Readiness offers video lessons and interactive learning tasks. The platform offers an initial (optional) cognitive skills assessment to track baseline and improvement over time. This platform offers many supplemental printable worksheets and a kindergarten readiness checklist. Each user should login using the institution name "New Philadelphia City Schools." Upon intital access, users can decide to continue as a guest or create a personal account.
Lessons--INFOhio Blizzard Bags (K-12, Cross-curricular)
INFOhio features pre-packaged lesson plans ("blizzard bags") made by Ohio educators and aligned to Ohio standards. Scroll through this article to the "Remote Learning Resources for Teachers" header and scroll a bit more to find lessons by grade level. These lessons are cross curricular.
Lessons--Scholastic Learn at Home (K-9)
Scholastic is offering "day by day projects to keep kids reading, thinking, and growing." The daily lessons feature Scholastic antimated books, videos, and articles. Some are available in Spanish. These are ready-made lessons for teachers, but can also be great supplemental resources to provide families that may want to do more.
Magazine--Time for Kids Digital Library (K-6)
Time is offering free digital subscriptions to Time for Kids and Your $ for grade bands K-1, 2, 3-4, and 5-6. Each user needs to create a login for their own subscription.
Research Database--Kids Infobits (K-5, All core subjects & specials)
Text, images, charts and graphs, and educational videos from books, magazines, and news periodicals on interesting and important facts with connections to current and past events.
Research Database--Newsela (Grades 2-12, ELL)
Newsela offers leveled non-fiction articles to support core curriculum topics of interest. Readers can change the level to engage in the most appropriate reading experience for them. Spanish language resources available.
Research Database--PebbleGo (K-3, ELL)
This database features kid-friendly encyclopedia style information covering animals, health, science, social studies, and biographies. Spanish language translation available.
