Welcome to New Philadelphia City Schools

Dear Quaker Community Members,

I hope that you have all enjoyed the recent holiday break! As we move to the end of the first semester we have many highlights to celebrate. New Philadelphia City Schools received a rating of “Excellent with Distinction” on the Ohio Local Report Card.

This was the first time our district received the highest rating. Success like this is a direct result of the outstanding efforts put forth by our staff and students.  We also could not do this without the support of our community. I would like to say “Thank You” to the community for allowing us to educate your children and giving us the resources to be “Excellent with Distinction!”
The halfway point of the year finds us progressing toward our goals. Our staff has worked very hard to align ourselves to the new Common Core Standards. Our students will be responsible for these standards on the 2014-2015 state assessments. We have also worked very hard to establish our Professional Learning Communities within each building. These groups of teachers collaborate and share best practices based on data. This collaboration allows us to maximize our instruction time. All of this will allow us to ensure that our students perform to their maximum abilities.
In addition to our academic success, our students have performed admirably in extra and co-curricular activities. Our Cheerleaders defended their ECOL Championship while our Boys Soccer Team advanced to the Regionals. The Football Team capped off an exciting year with a trip to the OHSAA Playoffs and our Marching Quakers received a Superior rating at the OMEA State Band Competition. The Volleyball Team achieved the best record and highest rating in the state in their history. We have truly excelled in the classroom and the fields of competition.
We are looking forward to greater accomplishments for the second half of the year. We invite you to visit with us and witness the amazing things that happen in our buildings every day. We will have our Coffee Chats on February 1, 15, 22 and 29 at the Daily Grind. The Chats begin at 6:00 PM. We will also hold our “Quakers for Excellence” meeting on March 1, 2012 at the Front Street Administration Building. The meeting will be from 7:00-8:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you in the upcoming months!
                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                Bob Alsept
